London East Asia Film Festival 2017 (LEAFF)

If you’re a movie buff like me, then this festival will be exhilarating!  With a successful pre-festival in 2015 and the first official one in 2016, the London East Film Festival is back to quench your thirst, with amazing talent from this culturally-rich continent.

Mark your calendars, this year the festival will be taking place between the 19th and 29th October;  and you’ll have a chance to see classic and new movies, attend seminars and workshops with industry buffs. And you may even get to meet your favourite actors and directors.

One film that really stands out for me, and I’m so excited for is “ANARCHIST FROM COLONY” + Q&A with Actor Lee Je Hoon 이제훈!

You may know him as the inquisitive crime profiler Park Hae Young박해영, from tvN’s crime drama “Signal 시그널.”

The movie will be screened as a UK premiere on 20th October, and is part of “LEAFF’s Official Selection.”

There are 7 categories this year that consist of the following:

  • LEAFF OFFICIAL SELECTION
  • STORIES OF WOMEN
  • HONG KONG NOW AND THEN
  • “FANTASTIC FILM” FESTIVAL FOCUS
  • COMPETITION
  • RETROSPECTIVE: JAPANESE CINEMA
  • THE CENTENARY OF JAPANESE ANIMATION

Last year I saw a number of movies, but the ones that touched me the most were in the “Stories of Women” category. This festival is one of a kind and is the largest one of its kind. It’s not one to be missed, and I enjoyed the fact that you got to hear the stories of directors and actors during the Q and A’s; as a deeper and more personal insight was given to the films, and of the work that went into them.
