If you haven’t been blessed by the sight and sounds of the multifaceted septet, then I don’t know where you’ve been for the past 3 years! MONSTA X몬스타엑스 landed on British soil last weekend (Sunday 17th June), and took the Eventim Apollo by storm! Having attended their first world tour last year, in Paris, I didn’t think that their last show could be topped. But boy was I wrong! This time I decided not to watch the fan cams from Seoul’s concert, and cowered away from Twitter and Instagram for the duration of two days, to avoid all spoilers!
It was nice to be in my own country for this tour, as the VCR’s had English subtitles, and so this time I understood the story! MONSTA X ’s 몬스타엑스의 VCRs are always top notch and bring that grown, sexy and sophisticated feel which shadows their performances. In contrast, the guys are funny, sweet and down-to-earth.
My Favourite Bits
With Shownu 셔누 being an absolute goof in comparison to his bulky and dad-like demeanor. It’s strange that he appears to be all of this, whilst deep down he’s a child inside a 26-year-old man’s body.
When he performed, a new found attitude took over, and Shownu 셔누 became a beast! His vocals are velvety and his dance skills are second-to-none! My favourite Shownu 셔누moment was definitely when he performed “Versace on the Floor” with Jooheon 주헌. Their wardrobe was Versace, of course! I half expected it, but then I wasn’t so sure. Evidently, these boys’ bank accounts are poppiiiiin!
Shownu 셔누 wore a matching blazer and shirt. Shownu’s 셔누의 silk Versace shirt was unbuttoned to just his navel, and the print complimented his bronzed, golden-brown skin. Whilst Jooheon’s 주헌의 bleach-blonde hair was perched up by a pair of dark shades; his body was engulfed by a loosely tucked shirt. Also in black, white and gold to match Shownu 셔누.
Yes, of course they had a dance break, and it was sexy and unified!
Speaking of dance break duos! I.M 아이엠 and Hyungwon’s 형원의paired dance to Charlie Puth’s “How Long” was unexpected fire! Their bodies entwined into each other at one point; I’m sure you’ve seen the fan cams!
Seeing “Jealousy” “Destroyer”, “Tropical Night” and “Lost In Dream” all performed live blew my brain! Sometimes I slyly wish that “Destroyer” was the title track! Why can’t MONSTA X 몬스타엑스 release more than one single at a time, huh?
Kihyun 기현, Minhyuk 민혁, and Wonho’s 원호의 unit performance was very upbeat and refreshing. Kihyun’s 기현의 knobbly knees were so cute! And Wonho 원호 has really good legs, and thighs. Like really! And Minhyuk’s 민혁의 hair that everyone was mortified at, actually looked very good in real life.
All in all, the guys seemed to be very happy and felt the love for real!
What Really Ticked Me Off
So I had a B ticket, and therefore would enter after VIP, along with A ticket holders. Although UK Monbebe stressed that there would be no numbering system, fans from Germany decided to go ahead and do one the day before the concert and told fans to come back early hours of the morning. As I was in the area, I went to investigate – undercover of course! I was told:
“Sorry this numbering system is for people who are camping, so come back tomorrow morning at 4 am to receive a number.”
First of all, if it’s agreed that no numbering systems will take place, as My Music Taste had also disregarded them as they’re unethically unfair. I would never go to another country and try to take over, out of respect to the event company and the UK fanbases who arranged projects and wanted to make the day as pleasurable for everyone. In the end, it was a mess, and caused hassle and distress for people, as leaving and joining the queue became a mess, once security took over. People were thrown out, and I even ended up ten rows back! Long story, but that’s the short version.
Please tell me why I couldn’t even hear the translator? Or even what MONSTA X 몬스타엑스 were saying at times? Why must there be constant screaming when the guys were talking. Why were your homemade banners the side of 4 laptop screens?
Do you know how rude it looked when the guys would start speaking, and they’d they remove the mic from their mouth, as they waited for people to be quiet? It was embarrassing and showed a lack of maturity.
There were times when Wonho would say
“Okay, okay, okay!”
This is because he wanted to continue speaking. I could see signs of frustration on their faces at times, but they kept it moving of course.
Usually, I manage to get a VIP ticket, or I’m the second row at least, but as we all know it was the Hunger Games when it came to getting tickets this year. So this is the first time I’ve experienced all of the above.
It was an amazing concert, and it’s a shame that we didn’t hear the last song or get to take a picture with MONSTA X 몬스타엑스 this was due to the venue curfew and I’m not sure what caused the show to run over. It only started a few minutes late, as in like 8.03pm. The banner project arranged by UK Monbebe was a huge success, and the banner ocean looked beautiful! Evidently the guys were touched by it.
Anyway, MONSTA X 몬스타엑스 did it again! They outdid themselves and I feel that they evolve and change with each waking moment. They never cease to amaze me, and their talent and creative flair just keep getting better and better. They really take you on a musical journey and their sound consists of endless musical genres, and the story is always told so beautifully. MONSTA X 몬스타엑스 is a group that wholeheartedly connect with their fans, regardless of race, religion, colour or creed. I felt a strong communal bond both before and during the concert, as this special group really connects us all. MONSTA X’s 몬스타엑스 의music is colorful and physically riveting.
MONSTA X 몬스타엑스 if you’re reading this, I’d like to wish you the best of luck for the rest of your tour, and I hope your stomachs and hearts were full that day. From both the food support (arranged by myself and other admins of UK Monbebe) and the love and support that the UK fans gave to you.
Did you attend the London show? Or maybe another city? What was your experience like?
